Day One Highlights | Young Women & Feminist Movements Unpack Transformative Just Transition

Today we kicked off our workshop "Enhancing Social Dialogue for a Gender Transformative Just Transition", co-hosted by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and the Namibia Rural Women’s Assembly (NRWA).

We began with welcoming remarks from Mr. Hajo Lanz, FES Resident Director, and Agnes Tjindjo- Tjimbundu, NRWA Regional Coordinator, setting the tone for an open, solutions-focused dialogue.

Our sessions were rich in knowledge and vision:

Dr. Emma Nangolo (Researcher, IUM) unpacked how climate change, just transition, and gender justice are interconnected, showing that a sustainable future must address both environmental and social inequalities.

John Mark Mwanika (FES, TUCC) outlined the Principles of Just Transition, sharing strategies to make them gender transformative ensuring women’s voices, leadership, and needs are central in economic shifts.

Our final presentation for day one - From Dr Zivayi Chiguvare explored Green Hydrogen & Alternative Energy Sources asking the critical question: Is this a new dawn for climate action, or just a distant dream?

In the afternoon, participants worked in groups with the Gender Continuum Framework, reflecting on where their initiatives stand and how to fully integrate gender in just transition work.

Day One was not just about learning it was about shaping a climate-just, gender-equal future together.
